WORKING AT ECO-YARDS
The Eco-yards crew is made up of people respect the earth and each other. We also love beautifying spaces and take pride in each task and job completed. As individuals who take direction well and pay close attention to detail we are able to ensure that each project is completed to the Eco-yards standard. We like to work hard and get dirty, but most importantly we share a true sense of camaraderie and have fun throughout the season.
Our team takes on a variety of projects. We do everything from building rock rivers to installing paving stone and flagstone walkways. We do work on patios and retaining walls, as well as dis out sod and move soil and mulch. Shovels and wheelbarrows are commonly used, so stamina, strength and good body mechanics are important. We plant and do some yard maintenance. We also apply compost tea to our clients yards 3 times per season (check out a video here). Each year we take on more and more projects with a permaculture focus. You’ll gain valuable experience in just about every service we provide to our clients.
Our season runs from approximately May to early November, and while we typically work Monday to Friday, occasional weekend work may be requested. We remain flexible in regards to start and end times throughout the season to accommodate hours of daylight, weather and workload.
At Eco-Yards we pay an above average wage because we like to make sure you’re well taken care of. Our goal is to recruit and retain people who will grow with us over the years. As an added incentive, we also offer a competitive health benefits package for returning staff.

Design work is usually done from January through November with more hours required April through October. Typically we only work Monday to Friday, but Saturday work is occasionally required (once or twice a month) to meet clients (usually from April through October). Client visits are by Laureen, the Owner, and the Designer together and the concept of the design is developed together with Laureen. The Designer works independently most of the time from their own office, getting feedback from Laureen about the designs as they progress. When there is not enough design work, the designer works on crew or doing administrative support work. Hours are flexible – part-time hours from November through February usually and then the role can be full or part-time depending on the abilities and desire of the Designer to do other Eco-yards work. Training is provided in Eco-yards design methods and style. We use old school paper and pencil, although we are open to candidates with computer design experience. Eco-yards is interested in recruiting and retaining people who will stay for years and help grow the company.
